Unfortunately, the wall does not commonly "spring" back with the coming of springtime. This can lead to leaking, wall movement, cracking drywall, and other signs of foundation failure.

Should you notice basement wall cracks that are wider at one end, chances are the footing is moving. You will often find someone else similar crack, compensating for the wall part that is moving. Not only does this imply movement, it's an invitation for water intrusion.

Look down the siding line; is it horizontally straight? Check the eave lines for the same issues.

Brick wall cracks are easy to spot, indicating the need for foundation repair. Likewise, chimneys lean or tilt away from the house when their footing begins to settle. Do birds or squirrels build nests inside your chimney? It's warm for them but not so good for you.

Hardwood Flooring installation Guide

With the following steps, you will not only be able to install the hardwood floor you've always wanted but also save yourself some money in the process.

1 Prep Subflooring
A subfloor of wood is required prior to hardwood installation. Plywood is an proper material and concrete flooring must be covered with a vapor wall and a minimum of 5/8" of plywood.

Make sure that there is not inordinate moisture in the flooring, uneven subfloor, or other debris on the surface. Additionally, you will need to remove shoe moulding and baseboards as well as undercut any door trims.

2 Wood Acclimation
Before installing, ensure that the wood is acceptably moist in comparison within the subfloor. For flooring 3" wide or larger, the moisture article incompatibility should be less than 2% in the middle of the subfloor and hardwood whereas flooring less than 3" can tolerate up to a 4% difference. Allow a 4" space in the middle of concrete and hardwood.

Mark the location of the floor joists on the wall and ensure that the floor is installed perpendicular to joists. Use asphalt paper to cover floor and lay wood out along the longest part of wall. 4 Pre-Drilling

Make pilot holes within the tongues, nail, and countersink through tongues. Continue with the rest of the rows ensuring that an expansion gap of 3/4" is kept.

9 Fix Bowing
To fix bowing, use a chisel to drill the subfloor and pry the board in order to straighten. Wood wedges can also be used.

10 Frame Obstructions
In order to frame base obstructions, use a miter to create the strict size board. Place the boards so the groove or tongue matches the present boards. remove tongue if touching the obstruction.

11 Form Corners
Use a jigsaw to make corner cuts. Ensure that there is an expansion gap of 3/4" along edges and 1/2" at the board's end.

12 Cut Last Row
Typically, the last row requires cutting in order to fit. After cutting, put boards in place and ensure the 3/4" expansion gap is present.

13 install Trim
Trim is then installed to cover expansion gaps. Baseboards should be nailed to walls and shoe moulding to the baseboard, not to the floor.
